Woven Steel Fencing

Cotswold Steel Fences are crafted by hand, on site, using woven mild steel. This means we shape the fence to fit your exact requirements. After an initial chat, we’ll evaluate your project, visit your site if necessary, and provide per-metre costings. We then install your fence, weaving it by hand, in-situ.

We are located just outside Bath in the South Cotswolds, and are happy to discuss projects based locally and nationally.

Cotswold Steel Fencing is priced competitively against plastic composite fencing and other metal alternatives. It’s extremely long-lasting, and doesn’t introduce plastics or synthetic coatings into your outdoor space.

Pricing for materials starts at £100 per square metre. This per metre cost is more expensive than timber fencing to purchase upfront, however it requires no ongoing maintenance, and will last for decades – making it a cost-effective alternative in the long-term.

We’re happy making smaller-scale, domestic and one-off fences using this bespoke method, because our fences are built to last. We will provide a quote based on a per-metre cost and installation.

Your fence is built to last for decades, and won’t need any ongoing maintenance after it’s installed. Unlike timber, plastic composite or other metal fences, you will never need to treat, paint, stain or jet-wash your woven steel fence. Instead, your fence will age naturally, becoming a timeless part of your environment. Because of this, woven steel fences work especially well for garden borders and landscaping. They can act as retainers for garden beds, as well as natural ‘trellises’ for training plants up.

Cotswold Steel Fences age naturally over time, with the mild steel changing colour and texture organically. This doesn’t affect your fence’s strength or stability. No two fences are exactly alike, and the exact rate of your fence’s aging depends on weather conditions after installation. Please see our guide below for some sample photos which indicate how your fence is likely to age.

How our fences age

Our Cotswold Steel Fences are crafted from mild steel, which has a low-carbon content. This means your fence begins its life as a smooth, steel grey colour and gradually rusts into an earthy, burnt brown hue. This natural process doesn’t change or compromise your fence’s strength, but it does change its colour and texture over time.

Your fence doesn’t need any additional or ongoing maintenance after installation, as it ages organically into the landscape – making this a cost-effective and sustainable fencing solution.

1 – 6 months old

Unique texture emerges

Your new fence begins its life with a smooth, shiny grey finish. As it weathers, unique patterns, colours and textures begin to appear.

6 months – 2+ years

Colour and texture deepen

By now, your fence has settled into its environment and has taken on a varied, organic rust texture and colour.

3+ years – fully aged

Matured, organically rusted finish

Your fence has reached its full maturity. Its understated, timeless finish blends sympathetically with the environment and doesn’t need any ongoing upkeep.

We love how our fence changes colour in sun, rain and frost. The way it curves around our garden looks superb. Try doing that with timber panels! The site inspection and installation went to plan, and the fence went up in two days.
